Khalsa Montessori School, celebrating 47 years, is in search of a new Head of School beginning this summer. 

 

Our team and I at the Montessori Foundation have been asked by our dear friends at the Khalsa Montessori School in Tucson, Arizona, to help them find their next Head of School as their founder and Head of more than 45 years prepares to retire.

 

Khalsa is a lovely and peaceful fully-implemented Montessori school set in the beautiful community of Tucson. All are welcome. The school values a diverse community and is committed to ensuring an environment that is fair, humane, and respectful.  

 

Khalsa Montessori School is a non-profit that offers both a tuition-funded private Montessori school program for infants through age four and a publicly funded charter school for age five through middle school. Its total enrollment is 350 students.

 

The school is a center of inspiration and support for Montessori schools. It sponsors a Montessori teacher education program accredited by AMS and MACTE. 

 

The school has been led by its founder, Nirvair Khalsa, right from the start. There is a strong leadership team and a supportive board and parent body. The faculty is skilled and stable. JOB DESCRIPTION:  We are seeking a MACTE Montessori EC 3-6 Guide. The Guide will work with the rest of the teaching team (another Lead Guide and Assistant)  to provide a warm, nurturing, and safe environment where self-direction is enhanced, independence is encouraged, and individuality is respected. Ideal candidates:

• Have previous experience working in a Montessori classroom environment.
• Have previous experience working with early childhood students in a classroom environment.
• Can work well and positively as part of a team; basic computer skills and knowledge of Google Workspace are helpful.
• Embrace a curriculum that embodies our founding ethos of People Care, Fair Share, and Earth Care.
• Skilled classroom manager, inspiring children to be their best selves and patiently coaching them through solution-finding processes.
• Embrace outdoor experiences in all kinds of weather conditions.
• Able to work between 8:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. daily. (once hired, applicants can choose to increase base pay by working during our Session Camps)
• Early Childhood 3-6 MACTE credential or other Montessori training; those in the midst of training are also strongly encouraged to apply!
• Interest or experience in farming, permaculture, or similar fields is a big plus!

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

COMPENSATION:  This is a full-time position with a competitive salary (commensurate with experience) and other benefits as outlined in the Staff Handbook (such as health and a 401(k)).
